Terms of Service

The ground rules for using ModStudent, written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

  • ModStudent is free while in beta. Plus is optional, renews until you cancel, and any payment can be refunded within 14 days.
  • It’s a planning aid. Always double-check dates and grades with your syllabus, instructor, and financial aid office.
  • Your content stays yours. We only use it to run ModStudent for you.
  • Be kind to the service and other students. You can leave any time by deleting your account.

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or using ModStudent, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use ModStudent.

ModStudent is operated by Betchine Fabienne E. Joseph, an independent sole proprietor based in Georgia, United States (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and Betchine Fabienne E. Joseph.

Who can use ModStudent

  • You must be 13 or older.
  • ModStudent is for your own personal planning. It isn’t meant for schools or organizations to manage student records on anyone’s behalf.
  • One person per account. Please don’t share your account or sign up for someone else.
  • Keep your sign-in details safe, and tell us at support@modstudent.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.

Free while in beta

ModStudent is free while it’s in beta. Because it’s a beta, features may change, move, or occasionally break while we improve things.

When the beta ends we’ll give you notice first. The Free plan stays free, and nothing is charged unless you choose to buy Plus.

Paid plans (Plus)

Plus is an optional subscription that unlocks extra features in your ModStudent account, like AI syllabus scanning, school calendar-feed sync, and email and push notifications on your phone or desktop (not SMS). Current prices are on our pricing page.

  • Payments. Plus is sold by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider and merchant of record. They charge your card, add any sales tax, and send receipts. Their buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
  • Renewal. Plus renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. The founding price applies to the first year only; it then renews as Plus yearly at the regular price, and we email you 14 days before.
  • Canceling. Cancel any time in Settings → Plan and billing. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds. Any payment can be refunded in full within 14 days. See the Refund and Cancellation Policy.
  • Price changes. We’ll email you before a new price applies to your next renewal, so you can cancel first.

A planning aid, not advice

ModStudent helps you organize and plan. It isn’t academic, financial, or legal advice, and it doesn’t replace your school’s official systems.

  • Estimates are estimates. GPA, grade, and financial aid calculations depend on what you enter and on rules that vary by school and course.
  • Check the source. Always confirm deadlines, grades, and aid requirements with your syllabus, your instructor, and your financial aid office.
  • Review what you import. Syllabus scanning and Canvas imports can miss or misread things. That’s why you confirm every date before it’s saved.
  • You’re responsible for your deadlines. Reminders are a helpful backup, but they can be late or fail, so please don’t rely on them alone.

Your content

Everything you add to ModStudent, like syllabi, grades, documents, and notes, stays yours. You give us permission to store, process, and display it only as needed to run ModStudent for you. That includes sending it to the services that help us operate, such as sending a syllabus to our AI provider when you choose to scan it.

This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the short time it takes encrypted backups to expire. We never use your content to train AI models, and you can download it any time from Settings → Your data.

Please only upload material you have the right to share.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • Upload or store anything unlawful, or anything you don’t have the right to share.
  • Try to access other students’ data, break or get around our security, or overload or disrupt the service.
  • Scrape, copy, or resell ModStudent, or use automated tools to access it in bulk.
  • Use ModStudent to harass anyone or to send spam.
  • Create accounts for other people or share one account between several people.

Found a security problem? Thank you! Please report it to security@modstudent.com and follow the guidelines on our Security and data page.

Other services

Some features connect to services we don’t control, like your school’s Canvas site. When you use them, follow your school’s rules too. We aren’t responsible for how those services work or for content on websites we link to.

Suspension and closing your account

You can stop using ModStudent and delete your account any time from Settings → Your data → Delete account.

We may suspend or close accounts that abuse the service, break these terms, or put ModStudent or other students at risk. When we reasonably can, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to download your data.

If we ever shut ModStudent down, we’ll give you advance notice so you can export your data.

No guarantees

We work hard to keep ModStudent accurate, available, and secure, but we provide it “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we don’t promise it will always be error-free, uninterrupted, or right for your particular situation.

Limits on our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, ModStudent isn’t responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as a missed deadline, a lower grade, or a change in financial aid or scholarship eligibility, that come from using or relying on the service.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that can’t be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that we can’t resolve together by email goes to the state or federal courts located in Georgia.

If the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts, or protections that can’t be waived, nothing here takes that away.

Changes to these terms

If we update these terms, we’ll change the date at the bottom of this page. For important changes, we’ll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using ModStudent after that, you’re agreeing to the new terms. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
