Third-party services
Detailed names and responsibilities for the services that help run ModStudent. For a student-facing summary, see Security and data.
Overview
ModStudent uses a small set of trusted providers to host the app, store your information securely, send account and reminder emails, report crashes, process optional AI requests you start, and (if you buy Plus) handle checkout.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it with advertising networks. Categories of sharing, purposes, and your choices are also described in the Privacy Policy. How we protect data is on Security and data.

Service providers
These providers process student data on our behalf to run ModStudent.
Vercel
- What it does
- Hosts the website and runs the app’s server code
- Data involved
- Requests and IP addresses in hosting server logs
Supabase
- What it does
- Database, sign-in, and file storage
- Data involved
- Account details and everything you save in ModStudent
OpenAI
- What it does
- Optional AI: reads syllabi you choose to scan and answers course-assistant questions you ask
- Data involved
- Syllabus file or text when you scan; question, recent chat turns, and a course summary when you use the assistant (see Privacy Policy)
Resend
- What it does
- Sends account and reminder emails
- Data involved
- Email address; deadline titles in reminder emails when reminders are on
Sentry
- What it does
- Reports app crashes and server errors so we can fix them
- Data involved
- Error details, page address without query string, and browser type. We disable default PII collection and scrub cookies, form contents, and IP fields we control before sending; see Sentry’s policy for its own infrastructure
Payments (merchant of record)
Lemon Squeezy is not listed with the ordinary service providers above. It sells Plus as merchant of record and may act as an independent controller for some payment and tax processing.
Lemon Squeezy
As merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy may act as an independent controller for some payment-related processing and as a processor for other services. Its privacy documentation describes these roles.
- What it does
- Checkout, sales tax, receipts, and refunds for Plus subscriptions as our merchant of record
- Data involved
- Name, email, billing address, and payment details at checkout (ModStudent never sees your card number). We keep plan status, renewal date, and Lemon Squeezy customer/subscription IDs
Other connections you start
- Canvas: contacted only when you paste a token and start an import. We never store the token.
- School calendar feeds: if you connect an iCal link, we store and read that link to refresh deadlines; disconnecting deletes it.
- Your calendar app: if you subscribe to a ModStudent calendar link, that app fetches deadlines and study blocks from us.
