Nothing is saved until you approve it.

Example with a fictional course. When a syllabus lists only a category weight, ModStudent splits it across that category's items. You can edit any field, add a missing deadline, or leave an item out.

How it works

From syllabus to a week you can follow, in three steps

  1. Step 1: Upload a syllabus

Drop in a PDF, snap a photo, or paste the text. Already on Canvas? Import your courses and assignments from there too.

  2. Step 2: Confirm every date

Each deadline, exam, and grading weight shows the line it came from. Fix anything that looks off. Nothing saves without your OK.

  3. Step 3: Follow your week

Study blocks are planned around your class times, with reminders before things are due. It's term-aware, so next term's classes don't clutter today.

Grades and aid

Built for students whose aid depends on GPA

Many scholarships and aid programs require a minimum GPA. ModStudent keeps that number next to your grades, so a slipping course shows up while there's still time to fix it, not after the term ends.

Example
Minimum GPA
3.00
Estimated GPA
3.12

Close: only 0.12 GPA above requirement

Biggest chance to improve: BIO 110 midterm on Wed, Oct 14 (25% of the grade)

Fictional numbers. Status levels are safe, close, and at risk.
  • GPA estimate

Calculated from your recorded grades and each course's credit hours, using the grading scale you set.

  • Scholarship GPA minimums

Each award's minimum is checked against your estimated GPA and marked safe, close, or at risk.

  • Early warnings

When a minimum is close or at risk, you see which upcoming assignments could move your grade, and when to act.

  • Financial-aid tracker

FAFSA, verification documents, tuition, refunds, and scholarship renewals, each with a status and due date.

  • Free scholarship sources

An always-open list of free places to search for scholarships, from federal and state programs to your own school.

  • Semester runway

See week by week whether your money lasts the term, with aid and tuition dates and a plan if it runs short.

  • Deadline reminders

Optional email and push notifications on your phone or desktop before deadlines (not SMS). Turn them on or off in Settings.

  • Planner and calendar feeds

A weekly plan built around your classes and busy times you add, plus a private subscription link that keeps Google, Apple, or Outlook Calendar up to date.

  • Your data, portable

Download a full JSON backup anytime, and delete your account yourself.

Why we built it

Deadlines in syllabi. Grades in spreadsheets. Aid dates in email.

ModStudent was created from firsthand experience with how hard college gets when everything is scattered. Students deserve one clear system that shows what matters now, what comes next, and what they can safely afford.

Read our story

Early students wanted

We're in beta and looking for students whose GPA affects their scholarships or aid. We'd rather show you real stories than invented ones, so there are no testimonials here yet. Try it, tell us what works, and help shape what comes next.

Privacy and security

Your grades are personal. We treat them that way.

  • You own your data. Export it anytime.
  • Delete your account yourself, right from Settings.
  • No ads, and we never sell your data.
  • No third-party trackers.
  • Your syllabus is never used to train AI models.
  • Each student's data is isolated with row-level security.

FAQ

Questions students ask

Is it free?

Yes. During the beta every feature is free for everyone. After the beta, the Free plan stays free forever, and Plus ($4.99 a month or $29.99 a year) adds fair-use unlimited syllabus scans, school calendar-feed sync (not a full LMS login), and deeper planning and scholarship tools. Nothing is ever charged without your agreement, and you can always export your data.

Does it work with my school?

It works with any syllabus from any school. If your school publishes an iCal calendar feed (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and many others do), you can paste that feed link for ongoing assignment sync — that is calendar-feed synchronization, not a full LMS gradebook login. You can also do a one-time Canvas copy with an access token, upload a syllabus, or import a CSV.

How accurate is the syllabus reader?

It's good, but no reader is perfect, so you stay in control. Every item shows the source text it came from, you can edit or remove anything, and nothing is saved until you approve it.

Is my syllabus used to train AI?

No. When you scan a syllabus, it's sent to our AI provider only to build your draft, and it is never used to train AI models.

Who can see my data?

Only you. Each student's records are isolated in the database with row-level security, and we don't sell data or show ads.

How is my GPA calculated?

ModStudent estimates your GPA from the grades you record and each course's credit hours, using the grading scale you set. It's an estimate, so confirm your official GPA with your school.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. You can delete your account in Settings, and it takes effect immediately. Download a backup first if you want to keep a copy.

How old do I need to be?

You need to be at least 13 years old to create an account.
